UVI Buccaneers Fall Short at St. Thomas University

Miami Gardens, FL, November 16, 2023 – The University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) men's basketball team fell 67-49 to nationally-ranked St. Thomas University on Wednesday night at the Fernandez Family Center in Miami Gardens, Florida. This was the first matchup of a two-game road trip in South Florida for the Buccaneers.

Junior guard Jalil Langston led the Bucs with 12 points and added seven rebounds. Omari Joseph led the team in rebounds as he grabbed nine.

As a team, the Buccaneers were active on defense as they tallied 10 steals.

"We played very well defensively," said head coach Shannon Taylor. "It was a tough start facing a ranked opponent this early in the season for us on the road, but I feel there were some positive points."

For St. Thomas University, Jordan Hernandez led his team in scoring with 16 points.

The Buccaneers will close out their road trip with a matchup on Thursday at 8 p.m. EST when they take on the Florida Memorial Lions at the FMU wellness Center in Miami Gardens.
