Bio
Shaquille Richardson is a proud Native Virgin Islander from the Island of St. Thomas. In 2023, Richardson joined the UVI Athletic Department as the Sports Information Director. In this role, Richardson oversees all athletic communications efforts, providing comprehensive coverage for all Buccaneer Athletic teams at the University. This includes media relations, pre and postgame write-ups, statistics, social media and website management, game day operations, event management, scheduling performances, producing halftime shows, organizing giveaways, and nominating and voting for conference postseason and national awards.
Prior to his tenure at UVI, Richardson gained valuable sports media experience in mass communication through radio, live game broadcasting, hosting a sports-based podcast, and while serving on the board for Livewire Sports, a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting high school students with the collegiate recruitment process.
During his time at the University, Richardson has taken on a leadership role in game day operations. He has successfully increased fan engagement through the Athletics department, resulting in a significant rise in fan attendance at sporting events. Richardson has also expanded the University's social media reach by developing new pages on various platforms and enhancing existing pages with captivating graphics, and contributing to game highlight videos, and in-game action shots.
In his first year at the University, Richardson spearheaded the development of programs aimed at enriching students' knowledge and providing practical experience in the field of College Athletics.
With a Bachelor of Science Degree in Sports Science and Fitness Management from North Carolina A&T State University and a Master of Business Administration degree in Sports Management from Saint Leo University, Richardson brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to his role at UVI. His dedication to enhancing the student-athlete experience and promoting community engagement make him a valuable asset to the Athletic Department.
In addition to his professional media and sports management pursuits, Richardson has also served as a coach, sports counselor, and mentor to young men and women in his community.
