The University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) men’s and women’s track and field teams kicked off their 2024 season this past weekend at the Embry-Riddle Running Elements Classic, held from April 3-5 at the Embry-Riddle Track and Field Complex in Daytona Beach, Florida. The meet featured institutions from the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I, II, and III, as well as National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) institutions.

Both teams are coming off a seventh-place finish in the GCAC Championships last season.

The two-day event that was hosted by the Shreveport-Bossier Sports Commission on April 19 and 20 ended with UVI placing seventh overall in the final GCAC conference standings.

The last time the Buccaneers competed was March 22 and 23 at the University of Central Florida’s (UCF) “Knight Invite” in Orlando, Florida.

They competed in the two-day event among NCAA Division I and II institutions including nationally recognized powerhouse universities such as Clemson, Rutgers, Yale, and Penn State.
