Dr. Karen Carty, the Director of Athletics at the University of the Virgin Islands (UVI), was to be selected to speak on a panel on day three of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) 2025 National Convention. The convention took place at the Sheraton San Diego Resort on Harbor Island in San Diego, California, from April 3-7.
University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) Sports Information Director Shaquille Richardson and women’s basketball graduate assistant Brea Patterson have been selected to attend the fourth annual National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Governance and Leadership Academy (GLA), which will be held in San Diego, California on April 3, 2025.
The University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) Buccaneer men's and women's track and field teams are gearing up for their second season in the NAIA's Historically Black College and Universities Athletic Conference (HBCUAC), formerly known as the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference (GCAC). Both teams are coming off a seventh-place finish in the GCAC Championships last season.
In a first-round matchup at the Historically Black College and Universities Athletic Conferences (HBCUAC) 2025 Hope Credit Union Basketball Championships, the University of The Virgin Islands Buccaneers suffered a defeat at the hands of the Wiley Wildcats, with a final score of 95-72 at the Birthright Alumni Hall in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Despite a valiant effort, the Buccaneers were unable to overcome the lead established by the Wildcats.

Junior guard Amayoa’ah Phillips has once again showcased his exceptional talent by being named to the All-Historically Black College and Universities Athletic Conference (HBCUAC) Second Team during the conference’s award ceremony at Stillman College in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. This latest accolade adds to Phillips' impressive list of achievements this season, making it the sixth time he has been honored by the conference.
