Three Buccaneers Earn UVI Scholar-Athlete Title

ST. THOMAS, V.I.   The University of the Virgin Islands' Athletic Department recognizes Kashay Bass, Will Boyd, and Denny Gonzalez as Buccaneers Scholar-Athletes.

Bass, hailing from Atlanta, Ga. is in her first year at the University of the Virgin Islands. A forward on the UVI Women's Basketball team, Bass averaged seven points and six rebounds in 11 games this season. She made four starts and finished second on the team in field goal percentage (47.1).

Boyd is a big man in his first year at the University of the Virgin Islands. Boyd, originally from Newark, N.J., arrived at UVI from Sandhills Community College in Pinehurst, N.C. Boyd played in all 11 games, starting all but one. He led UVI with 11.7 rebounds per game and was third on the team with a 9.9 points-per-game average. His six double-doubles were also a team-high.

Gonzalez, a native of St. Thomas, V.I. and 2021 graduate of All Saints Cathedral School, is also in his first year at UVI. The forward appeared in all 11 games, starting two. He averaged 5.1 points and 2.5 rebounds a game while leading the team in three-point percentage with 35.7.

These three student-athletes finished the Fall semester with a GPA of 3.1 or higher.
