
Williams' Game-High 13 Points Leads Bucs in Defeat

AVE MARIA, Fla. – UVI's Aaliyah Williams led all scorers with a season-high 13 points in a 90-51 loss at Ave Maria to close out a stretch of three straight games to open the season.
Ave Maria improves to 2-0 while the Bucs drop to 0-3.
Brittney Smith scored in double figures as she finished with 10 points to go with a team-high three assists.
Teliya Johnson led the Bucs with eight rebounds while Kierra Neal added seven rebounds for UIV. Alexia Hood had a season and game-high seven steals to go with nine points and five rebounds.
Ave Maria jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first four minutes and led 24-9 after the first quarter and 48-20 at halftime.
University of the Virgin Islands shot 29.4 percent (20 of 68) from the field and made 2 of 13 from 3-point range. The Bucs were 9 of 10 from the foul line.
The Gyrenes were 35 of 74 from the floor (47.3 percent) and connected on 11 of 30 from behind the arc.
The Bucs return home and they are back in action on Thursday on the first night of the UVI HBCU Basketball Classic when they host Southern University at New Orleans at 5 p.m.
