ST. THOMAS, U.S. Virgin Islands – Alexia Hood and Brittney Smith each had 12 points to lead the University of the Virgin Islands in a 67-36 loss to Philander Smith during day two of the UVI HBCU Classic.
Philander Smith improves to 5-0 while the Bucs drop to 0-5.
Aaliyah Williams added 10 points while Mia Davis had a game-high 11 rebounds to lead UVI.
The Bucs started slow trailing 21-2 after the first quarter before fighting back and trailing 31-19 at halftime.
Philander Smith outscored UVI 18-7 in the third to take a 49-27 into the fourth quarter.
UVI was 9 of 44 from the field (20.5 percent) while hitting 3 of 19 from 3-point range.
The Bucs are back in action at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday against Florida National to close out the UVI HBCU Classic.
