Phillips Earns Second Consecutive HBCU Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week

St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, February 4, 2025 – Junior guard Amayoa'ah Phillips of the University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) men's basketball team has once again been recognized for his outstanding performance on the court. Phillips earned his second consecutive Historically Black College and Universities Athletic Conference (HBCUAC) Offensive Player of the Week award for the Week of January 27-February 2.

The junior guard scored 99 points over the course of three games last week, averaging an impressive 33 points per game while shooting 64.4% from the field, 44.4% from behind the arc, and 80.6% from the free-throw line. Phillips scored 30 plus points in each game during that span, including his best outing of the season as he delivered a 35-point performance against Dillard University on February 1.

In addition to his Offensive Player of the Week accolade, Phillips also received the HBCUAC Newcomer of the Week award for the third time this season. He previously earned this recognition during the weeks of December 16-22, 2024, and January 6-12, 2025.

The reigning Offensive Player of the Week currently ranks as the second-leading scorer in the HBCUAC and eighth overall in the National Intercollegiate Athletic Association (NAIA), averaging 22.8 points per game.

Joining Phillips in receiving conference honors for the week of January 27-February 2 are Southern University at New Orleans (SUNO) forward Jamal Gibson, named Defensive Player of the Week, and Donte Briggs, also of SUNO, recognized as Freshman of the Week.
