
UVI Cross Country Teams Compete at GCAC Championships
ST. THOMAS, U.S. Virgin Islands, October 19, 2023 – The University of the Virgin Islands men's and women's cross country teams will make their GCAC Championships debut at the Oakville Indian Mounds Education Center Course in Danville, Alabama on Friday, October 20,2023.
The Buccaneer teams are competing in their first GCAC Championships for cross country as the University joined the conference at the beginning of the 2023- 2024 academic school year.
The men's team will have nine athletes competing, led by stand-out runners Nasir Watson and Shirmoy O'Garro. O'Garro finished with a season-best time of 29:27.82 for the Buccaneers in their last meet.
Arianna Renault is expected to be the top contender for the five participants on the women's team.
"They'll be competitive," said head coach Dale Joseph when asked about his expectations for the teams seeking their first GCAC title. "It'll be a culmination of an eventful season."
The men's 8K race will begin at 10 a.m. CST, followed by the 6K race at 11 a.m. CST for the women to determine the conference champions. Both races will be streamed live via the HBCU+ App.
