Bucs Fared Well at GCAC Championships; Renault Runs a Season-Best Time

DANVILLE, Ala., October 21, 2023 - The University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) men's and women's cross-country teams fared well at the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference (GCAC) championships in Danville, Ala. Both teams competed against seven other institutions in the hope of capturing their first GCAC cross country title. Lady Buccaneer runner Arianna Renault posted a season-best finish at the conference championship.

Renault finished the race in 29:15.45, which was the 11th fastest in the completion time. "Arianna is a talented runner and what she did was a testament to her talent and heart," said head coach Dale Joseph. The sophomore runner blazed through the course, improving her personal best time in the six-kilometer race by over two minutes. Teammates Brea Patterson finished 24th, followed by a 32nd place finish for Kashay Bass.

On the men's side, Nasir Watson crossed the finish line in 23rd place with a time of 35:17.05, leading the men's team into seventh place with a total score of 176 points. Najai Nisbett, Nathan Shaw-Clarke, William Stenger and Jalil Langston rounded out the top 5 finishers for UVI, placing 36th,38th, 39th and 41st respectively.

After wrapping up the final meet, Coach Joseph reflected on the season. "All the other meets were dress rehearsals for this race. The GCAC championships were a satisfying end to our season. Tremendous effort by the team and entire staff to make this season a success."
