
Schedule Release: 2021-2022 Basketball
The University of the Virgin Islands men’s and women’s basketball teams will be returning to the court for the 2021-2022 campaign with new players, new coaches, and new threads. This season will feature a total of 47 games for UVI, headlined by the inaugural UVI HBCU Basketball Classic in November.
The basketball season for UVI begins with a flight and a drive to Sumter, S.C. for a pair of doubleheader games against Morris College on October 29th and October 30th. The women’s team will take the court first for a 6 p.m. date on Friday before the men’s game at 8 p.m. The action begins with the women’s team at 2 p.m. on Saturday. In addition to being the season opener, the games against the Hornets will be the first for Head Men’s Coach Alfonzo Duncan and Head Women’s Coach Lynika “Niki” Collins while at UVI.
November 13th, UVI Men’s Basketball hosts a Division-I NCAA school when the University of North Alabama comes on-island for a 4 p.m. game.
From November 18th to November 20th, UVI men’s and women’s basketball will be in Ohio for two consecutive games against Wilberforce and a third game against Central State University that Saturday.
The Buccaneers close out the 2021 calendar year on the road in Georgia with a December 10th game against Trinity Baptist College, a December 12th contest against the College of Coastal Georgia, and finally, a December 15th matchup against Truett McConnell.
Basketball returns in the 2022 calendar year with 10 consecutive home games (five doubleheaders) inside the Sports & Fitness Center. The action begins with UVI hosting Rust College for a pair of doubleheader games in the Martin Luther King Classic. The women are up first for a 2 p.m. game on January 16th and a 4 p.m. game on January 17th.
The next weekend, UVI welcomes Florida National University for doubleheader games on January 21st and January 22nd. On January 28th, UVI women’s basketball hosts National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) member Carver College for a 4 p.m. date and UVI men’s basketball welcomes the Mingoes of the University of the Bahamas for a 6 p.m. matchup.
February begins with a flight to Florida for a pair of doubleheader games against Florida National on February 4th and February 5th before a contest against Edward Waters University on February 8th.
The Buccaneers will close out the 2021-2022 regular season at home with doubleheader games against Haskell Indian Nations University on February 11th and February 12th and then lastly, matchups against Southwestern Assemblies of God University on February 18th and February 19th.
