
UVI Scores Season-High 91 in Rout Over Trinity Baptist
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. The University of the Virgin Islands Women's Basketball Team set several season-highs in a 91-54 rout over host Trinity Baptist College Friday evening.
The Buccaneers outscored the Eagles 47-18 in the second half en route to a season-high 91 points, breaking the previous mark of 79. The 35 field goals made were also a season-high, along with UVI shooting 46 percent (35-of-76) from the field. The Buccaneers tied their season-high with 14 steals while turning the ball over just 10 times, a season-low for UVI.
Kaeani Berry and Melea Lovelace also got involved in setting new marks. Berry's game-high 20 points was a season-high for her and Lovelace logged her first double-double of the season with 17 points and 10 rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 22-19 entering the second quarter, the Buccaneers dominated Trinity Baptist to the tune of 72-32 over the final three quarters. Down 25-24 early in the second, UVI went on a 15-0 run. It was the reserve unit that led the run as Kashay Bass had six points and Kaya Evans turned in a three-pointer, plus an assist during the run.

The game was cracked open with a 14-0 UVI run that turned a 51-41 lead into a 65-41 score with two minutes remaining in the third quarter. Amber Appiah-Kubi ignited the run with a three on an assist from Lovelace. Berry had six points in the span. Over the full 10 minutes of the third period, the Buccaneers outscored the Eagles, 24-7.

The rout continued in a fourth quarter that saw UVI double-up Trinity Baptist, 23-11. Over the final 4:30 of the game, the Buccaneers went on a 17-2 run to highlight their superiority.

Berry finished with 20 points (8-of-10 on field goals), eight boards (six offensive), and two steals. Lovelace had five assists, which was a game-high and it tied a season-high for the guard. She also had two steals.

Kierra Neal had 12 points, four boards, and two steals. She has scored in double-digits every game this season. Neal had 10 points in the fourth quarter to secure her streak.

Bass, Evans, and Mia Davis each finished with nine points. Bass added seven rebounds, two steals, and two assists. Evans contributed four boards and three assists.

UVI outrebounded Trinity Baptist, 46-28, and had a 25-3 advantage in points off turnovers.
