Richardson Named SID and Director of Facilities

ST THOMAS, U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS -- Shaquille Richardson has been named the sports information director and facilities director at the University of the Virgin Islands. He will oversee the media requests for the department, social media planning and implementation, website management, and facility management for the Elridge Blake Sports and Fitness Center and the UVI Wellness Center.

"I am extremely excited to welcome Shaquille to the UVI Athletics Team. His prior journalism and media experience coupled with his knowledge and experience with the local sports scene, make him the perfect candidate to be our sports information director, " said Dr. Karen Carty, UVI Director of Athletics. "Additionally, he is young, energetic, and open to learning which will allow him to excel in this position."

Richardson comes to UVI after serving as a teacher for the Virgin Islands Department of Education from 2017-2023. He also brings a wealth of sports media experience after spending time as a sports analyst, statistician, and sports writer for Livewire Sports, a sports media organization based in St. Thomas, U.S.V.I. since 2019.

His other media and sports management experience includes being a radio show host for Radio One AM 1000 in St. Thomas and completing an internship with the tennis team at North Carolina A&T State University while earning a bachelor's degree in Sports Science and Fitness Management.

"I am looking forward to the opportunity to work with this well-respected University,"said Richardson. "I'm especially excited to be a part of the Athletics Department where my lifelong passion lies, as we continue to grow the culture of Buccaneer Athletics, both locally and nationally. Go Bucs!"

Richardson, a St. Thomas native, attended Charlotte Amalie High School and completed a Master of Business Administration Degree in Sports Management from Saint Leo University. 

In addition to his professional media and sports management pursuits, Richardson has also served as a coach, sports counselor, and mentor to young men and women in his community.
