Lady Buccaneers Head to Ohio for HBCUAC Crossover

St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, December 12, 2024 – The University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) women's basketball team is headed to Wilberforce, Ohio to compete in the Historically Black Colleges and University Athletic Conference (HBCUAC) Crossover from December 13-17. This event will showcase teams from the eastern and western divisions of the HBCUAC competing in cross-divisional pool play at two neutral sites.

After a tough loss in their season opener against St. Thomas University in Miami Gardens, Florida, UVI (0-1) is ready to hit the court again with a revamped lineup. Seniors Kashay Bass, Jordan Carter, and Maliah LaCour will be back in action for the Lady Buccaneers, bringing a new dynamic to the team.

Over the span of five days, UVI will play four games as it begins its quest for the HBCUAC title. Despite being predicted to finish 13th in the HBCUAC Preseason polls, the Lady Buccaneers are determined to make a statement.

The first team standing in their way will be the Lady Bulldogs of Fisk as they open the Crossover on December 13 followed by matchups against Voorhees University and Wilberforce, both new additions to the HBCUAC. The road trip will culminate in a showdown with the reigning HBCUAC champion, the Lady Bearcats of Rust.
