Anna Orfanidis Announced as Athletic Trainer

ST. THOMAS, U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS, October 1, 2024 – The University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) Athletics Department is pleased to announce the hiring of Anna Orfanidis as the new athletic trainer. Orfanidis brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Buccaneer athletic programs. The Boston, Massachusetts native fills the void of a full-time athletic trainer that the University has been seeking for the past few years.

"Words cannot accurately express how glad I am to have Anna on board," said UVI director of athletics Dr. Karen Carty. "We have been actively trying to fill this position for the last 12 months and to be able to get someone of Anna's caliber to accept the position means a lot for our department and for the health and safety of our student-athletes."

Orfanidis joins UVI after serving as an athletic trainer at Boston University, where she focused on the women's rowing program. Prior to her time at Boston University, Orfanidis served as an athletic trainer at Suffolk University, where she worked with women's volleyball, women's ice hockey, and baseball teams.

"I'm so excited to be at UVI as the full-time athletic trainer," said Orfanidis. "I feel that I can help make a difference and I'm ready to provide evidence-based services and quality healthcare to promote excellence for our athletes in athletics and lifelong wellbeing."

Before her tenure at Suffolk University, Orfanidis served as a graduate assistant athletic trainer, working with women's basketball, rugby, track and field, and rowing programs. She also had the opportunity to work as an athletic trainer for the Chinese Olympic Committee, specifically with the Olympic women's ice hockey team.

Orfanidis earned her bachelor's degree in athletic training from Springfield College in 2018 and went on to complete her Master of Business Administration with a concentration in healthcare administration from the Jack Welch College of Business at Sacred Heart in 2021. In addition to her academic achievements, she holds various certifications in the field and is fluent in both Greek and English.
