UVI Athletics Announces Basketball Schedule Changes
ST. THOMAS, U.S. Virgin Islands, December 5, 2024 – The University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) Athletics Department announces an update in the men's and women's basketball schedule affecting the teams' upcoming home games against Wiley University of the Historically Black College and University Athletic Conference (HBCUAC).
Wiley University was scheduled to visit the Elridge Blakes Sports and Fitness Center on December 7 for the Buccaneers' first HBCUAC conference game of the season. However, at the request of the visitors, the originally scheduled game has been postponed until February, with the game day and time to be announced.
Earlier this month, Philander-Smith University, also a member school of the HBCUAC, made a similar scheduling request. UVI's home game against Philander Smith has been rescheduled for February 4, with a 6 p.m. start for the women's game followed by an 8:00 p.m. start in men's action.
As a result of the scheduled adjustments, the Buccaneers' only competitions in the month of December will be in the Wilberforce University Pod, where teams from the HBCUAC will compete in cross-divisional pool play (East vs. West) from December 13 to 17 in Wilberforce, Ohio.
