Contreras Career-High 27 Points Leads Bucs in Loss at Spring Hill

MOBILE, Ala. –
Joel Contreras had a career and game-high 27 points but Spring Hill beat shorthanded University of the Virgin Islands 82-59.

Spring Hill improves to 5-4 on the season while the Bucs drop to 1-11.

UVI was without its leading scorer Naythan Shaw-Clarke, who is averaging 21.2 points per game and Eliyah Stevens, who is averaging 12 points and a team-high 8.3 rebounds per game.

Contreras had the career best 27 points while Jalil Langston added 18 points for UVI which had just four players score.

Shirmoy O'Garro (8 points) and Nathan Carroll (6 points) also scored for UVI in the game.

The Bucs were 19 of 48 from the floor (39.6 percent) and connected on 4 of 13 (30.8 percent) from 3-point range. Spring Hill shot 53.2 percent (33-63) from the field and hit 12 of 30 from behind the arc (40 percent). The Badgers held a 37-23 edge in rebounding in the win.

Spring Hill closed the first half on an 11-2 run turning a 25-24 lead into a 36-26 halftime lead.

The Badgers ran off 12 straight for a commanding 51-30 lead in the first four minutes of the second half.

The Bucs close out this three-game road trip and the first semester on Wednesday afternoon at 3:00 local time.
