UVI Drops Road Game at Thomas

THOMASVILLE, Ga. –
Joel Contreras led all scorers with 24 points but the University of the Virgin Island lost to Thomas University 89-47 to close out the first semester.

Thomas, which is receiving votes in the NAIA Top 25 national poll for the first time in school history, won its 10th straight and improves to 11-2 while the Bucs drop to 1-12 on the season.

Jalil Langston added 16 points while Mario Dawson tied his season-high with 16 rebounds for UVI.

The Bucs shot a season low 29.1 percent from the field (16-55) and connected on 4 of 16 (25 percent) from downtown.

Thomas was 36 of 78 (46.2 percent) and made 10 of 32 (31.3 percent) from 3-point range in the win. Thomas held a 51-37 edge on the glass

The Night Hawks used a 10-3 run to open up a 27-15 lead with 9:10 left in the first half and Thomas led 43-26 at halftime.

Thomas would use a 12-1 run to take control with a 59-31 lead with 13:36 left

The Bucs are off until the new year. UVI will play a back-to-back at Florida Memorial on Jan 23rd and 24th with tip set for 8:00 AST.
