
Bucs Beat Florida National in Season Finale
NORTH MIAMI, Fla. – Naythan Shaw-Clarke had a team-high 19 points and season-high 16 rebounds, his seventh straight double-double leading the University of the Virgin Islands to a 66-62 win over Florida National in the season finale at the Scott Galvin Center as part of the Skinner Classic.
The Bucs, who were shorthanded playing with six players during the second semester, finished the five-game road trip with three wins and closed the season with a record of 4-16.
Jalil Langston added 17 points and eight rebounds, Nathan Carroll had season-high 13 points as he connected on 3 of 4 from 3-point range and William Steger was also in double figures with 13 points for the Bucs in the win.
The Bucs were 23 of 58 (39.7 percent) from the floor and made 7 of 22 from 3-point range while Florida National was 25 of 66 (37.9 percent) and hit 10 of 23 from behind the arc.
UVI managed just one basket in the first eight minutes of the game and trailed 9-3 with 11:57 left in the opening half. The Bucs would however then score nine straight taking a 12-9 lead with 10:31 left in the half.
Florida National would lead by as many as seven (29-22) in the opening half and led 33-30 at the break. Shaw-Clarke had eight points and 10 rebounds in the first half.
FNU pushed the lead to eight at 40-32 in the first three minutes of the second half before the Bucs scored 12 straight to start a 17-2 run taking a 49-42 lead with 11:44 left.
UVI would never relinquish the lead, having it cut to one on three different occasions.
Shaw-Clarke's layup with seven second left iced the game for the Bucs making the score 66-62.
