Shaw-Clarke's Bucket in Final Seconds Lifts UVI to Second Straight Win

DENMARK, S.C. – Naythan Shaw-Clarke's driving bank shot with 1.3 seconds left broke a tie and lifted the University of the Virgin Islands to a 58-56 win over host Voorhees University.

Shaw-Clarke registered his fourth straight double-double as he finished with a game-high 26 points to go with a season-high 13 rebounds as UVI won its second straight to improve to 3-14 on the season.

Jalil Langston was also in double figures for UVI as he added 13 points and a team-high seven rebounds in the win.

The Bucs shot a season-high 54.8 percent from the floor (23-42) while connecting on 4 of 11 from 3-point range. Voorhees was 22 of 53 (41.5 percent) from the field and made 4 of 15 from behind the arc. UVI dominated the boards as they outrebounded Voorhees 36-22.

Voorhees jumped out to 10-3 in the first four minutes. The Bucs scored 10 straight taking a 22-18 lead with 6:54 left in the first half. UVI would close out the half on a 15-4 run to take a 37-25 lead at the half.

The Bucs led by as many as 15 in the second half, 46-31 with 13:29 left.

Voorhees would not go quietly, scoring 13 straight to climb back into the game cutting the deficit to just two at 46-44 with 9:08 remaining.

The Tigers take the lead 49-48 with 5:55 left and they pushed the lead to 54-50 with 4:55 left.

UVI would score six straight, taking the lead on a layup by Shaw-Clarke with 1:11 left. Voorhees would tie it 56-56 on a hoop by Hector Rosario with 27 seconds left.

The Bucs are back in action on Wednesday against Florida Palms at 4 p.m. EST in the Skinner Classic at Fort Lauderdale, the first of three games in three days to close out the season.
